THE BENCH · TOOL No. 10
Add Page Numbers
Put numbers on every page of a PDF, so a printed stack stays in order and a reader can find their place. Choose where the numbers sit and which page they start on. It runs in your browser, with no upload and no sign-up.
Honest limits
- Numbers are added as a new layer on each page; the original words and layout are left alone.
- If a PDF already carries printed numbers, the new numbers will sit alongside them — check a page or two before you print the whole file.
How it works
- Choose the PDF you want to number.
- Pick where the numbers sit: bottom, top, left, or right.
- Choose the page the numbering starts on.
- Download the numbered PDF.

Questions people ask
How do I add page numbers to a PDF?
Open Add Page Numbers, choose your file, pick the position and the starting page, and download the numbered PDF.
pdf page numbers don't match
That usually happens when the file's printed numbers and the reader's count disagree — for example, a cover page counted as page 1 while the book itself starts at page 1 later. Set the starting page here to match the printed numbers, so the two counts line up.
Can I start numbering from a page other than the first?
Yes. Set the starting page, and numbering begins there, skipping the cover or front pages you leave out.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Numbering happens in your browser on your own device. Your file never leaves it.
